Developing Effective Countermeasures for Hate Speech and Extremist Ideologies in Digital Spaces

Intermediate GA

Today's rapid digital expansion has not merely created a new medium for global communication; it has also unleashed hostility, hate speech, and even incitement to violence. Disturbingly, while many states and technology corporations have already embarked on comprehensive actions to counter harmful virtual content, the international community is still inconsistent among individual states. Faced with this complication in efficient digital communication, resolutions will have to balance freedom of expression with safety from violence and discrimination. Delegates will also be forced to grapple with issues of jurisdiction, enforcement actions, and cultural differences that complicated regulation in the past.

638 Ways to Kill Fidel Castro

Welcome to The Cold War: Operation Mongoose at VMUN 2025! In this committee, you will navigate the complex Cold War-era policies towards Cuba, Brazil, Congo, and Guatemala, following the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961. Your actions will have a lasting impact on the spread or containment of communism and the future of the United States as you combat Fidel Castro’s regime. Keep in mind that you must not only aim to combat the dictator, but also establish policy that encourages US ideals across Cuba and the world. We are excited to see what you come up with in committee and can’t wait to see you at VMUN!

At VMUN 2025, the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) will address the issue of drug trafficking in Southeast Asia. This area, known as the Golden Triangle, acts as a global hotspot for opium and drug production, powering organized crime, corruption, and public health issues. Our committee will focus on the enforcement of human rights, internal cooperation, and development that dismantles trafficking networks. Delegates will look into innovative solutions, from legal structures to new technologies, to disturb the drug trade while pinpointing its root causes. This committee will focus on creating smart and long term resolutions that look towards a safer future.
